As a dancer, it's important to maintain a healthy lifestyle. One of the most important aspects of health for a dancer is diet. Proper fuel for the body is extremely important in order to maintain proper energy levels, avoid injury, and stay well during competition season so that personal performance will not suffer. In high school, I was constantly dancing due to being on the dance team; so being a teenager and having a high metabolism, I wasn't worried about eating well. It wasn't until college that I started to gain weight; so I started to take this whole "eating healthy" thing serious.

This post will be about my diet as a dancer.

Every morning, I like to have egg whites, two whole wheat toast, smeared with almond butter, some slices of strawberries, and a nice cool glass of almond milk. This meal is rich in protein that provides energy for the start of my day.

For lunch, I like to eat something light but with loads of flavor. I love the Santa Fe Style salad because of the many delicious components it includes; such as the tortilla strips to add crunch along with the sweet taste of roasted corn. The southwest chicken adds a flavorful taste to the salad with the creamy poblano dressing all on top of a bed of lettuce. And make sure you have your water on the side!

Small but a filling meal for dinner. White quinoa with brown rice cooked with black beans, chopped bell peppers, and spices with oven baked salmon on the side.

As you can see, my daily meals are mainly full of protein. My breakfast and lunch usually stays the same and my dinner differs by the week. This week, I made veggie chili and next week, I plan to make lentil soup with chorizo, potatoes, and carrots! Whenever I run out of ideas, I like to look at Buzzfeed Tasty on Instagram. They post quick yet detailed instructional cooking videos and I search through the page to see which meal fits in with my new way of healthy eating.
