Building Your Dance Career In Houston

Houston may not be like other huge dance markets like LA, Atlanta, or New York; but what we all CANNOT deny is that we produce stars. Let me clear my throat and brag about who we've produced: my future employer, BEYONCE, Kelly Rowland, Travis Scott, Meagan Thee Stallion, Normani Kordei, and more. So if you're in Houston wanting to begin your dance career but not sure where to start, here are a few suggestions:

-If you're the kind of person that enjoys being on teams, there are multiple studios that have very talented teams that compete at many competitions. From the post I did about different studios in Houston, I listed a few studios that are known for their competitive teams. Those studios are Soundbox Studios, Dance Zone, and Soreal Dance Studio.

-For a more commercial feel, following Nova Company on Instagram would be a great choice to become acclimated with the owners, and later on have the opprotunity to participate in the different shows that they book dancers for.

-Lastly, an option that's personally my favorite is to join a showcase. There's not many showcases in Houston, but recently, Houston choreographer, Jaike Baldwin, just finished his first showcase this past October called "Glow" and his next project, "Vixen" will be holding auditions in November. This, to me, was the perfect way for me to meet a good amount of Houston dancers and to create friendships. After the show was finished, we were always spending a lot casual time together. And with that, it's not bad going to a dance class alone because you're most likely going to know at least one person!
